Meet the Clubhouse Community – Lach
Lach is the YWCA Canberra Clubhouse Coordinator. He has a background in software engineering and music but is always ready to give anything a go. We caught up with Lach to chat about what he likes about being the Coordinator of the YWCA Canberra Clubhouse.
What interested you in the Clubhouse?
The day I first read about the Clubhouse I knew I had to apply to be the coordinator. I’ve always learnt through hands on exploration and have always spent hours doing research and learning about things that interest me outside of schooling. The Clubhouse combines all of my biggest loves, technology, music and youth work, so it was pretty much the perfect fit for me.
What’s your favourite thing to use at the Clubhouse?
I find it hard to pick just one thing as it always changes over time. I love hanging out in the recording studio and making music with our members. I’m a big board game fan too, so it’s been great having the opportunity to work with some of our members in developing their own games. Photoshop is another program I love working with and I especially love seeing the reaction from members when they create something that they’re really proud of.
What’s the best thing you’ve created so far?
I don’t know if there’s a ‘best’ thing that I’ve created, but I had a lot of fun during the Rube Goldberg workshop in the January school holidays. As much as I enjoyed making bits myself, my favourite part was some of the very creative and brilliant contraptions the members designed and built. My line of dominoes had nothing on the work that they did!
What’s something new you’d like to see the Clubhouse get?
I would love to see some more music gear in the Clubhouse. We currently have ukuleles (a lot of our members can play), and I’ve brought in my keyboard for the members to use, but I’d love to get an electric drum kit and some guitars too so that our members are really able to expand the range of their musical skills.
