PhotoAccess – Light and Grain Exhibition Opening
By Lach Howarth
This Wednesday we celebrated the opening of the Light and Grain exhibition at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre. The exhibition consists of twelve black and white, silver gelatine photographs, hand printed by Lake Tuggeranong College students in partnership with PhotoAccess and the YWCA Canberra Computer Clubhouse.
The program was run across 8 weeks at the Manuka Arts Centre. Particpants spent the first few weeks making chemograms and photos from pinhole cameras, in order to get used to the process involved with using a dark room. After that two excursions were taken, one to the National Gallery and the other around Manuka. Participants took black and white film cameras with them and shot two reels each. From there the film was developed and printed by the participants in the dark room, and then framed to be exhibited.
The program was a fantastic success, with participants signing up to the PhotoAccess program in order to be able to access the space outside of school. The exhibition is open from Wednesday the 18th of November until Saturday the 28th of November in the foyer of the Tuggeranong Arts Centre and it’s definitely worth going and having a look. All photographs are for sale, priced at $100, with a couple having already sold.
