By Lach Howarth

Emily is a 14 year old Clubhouse member with strong interest in design and making. Emily is interested in Engineering and was one of the participants in our Big Day Out excursion. We caught up with Emily to have a chat about her time at Clubhouse

Why do you come to the Clubhouse?

I come to the Clubhouse to hang out, learn things, get to make cool crafts, and get to use my photography skills.

What makes you proud to be a Clubhouse member?

All the cool stuff I can use like the 3D printer, Xbox, the Macs and the Cameras.

What’s your favourite thing to use at the Clubhouse?

Make paper flowers.

What’s the best thing you’ve created so far?

The best thing I’ve created is the flower I made for Annie-Lea.

What’s something new you’d like to see the Clubhouse get?

A cooking lesson so that people could bring stuff in and learn how to cook it. We could have a recipe book and people can look through it and learn how to go home and cook it for their family.

About Lach Howarth

If you drop by the Clubhouse, you’ll come across one friendly face in particular – Lach Howarth. Lach is YWCA Canberra’s Clubhouse Coordinator, and he loves his job! Lach has a background in software engineering at university and a passion for music. He got in to the community sector teaching music at a youth program as well as running ukulele classes at the YWCA Canberra Lanyon Youth Centre and loved it. When the Clubhouse Coordinator position came up, Lach knew instantly that this is what he wanted to be doing, as it combined his love of youth work and IT. Lach loves all kinds of technology, so make sure to pick his brain about the exciting projects you want to try out at the Clubhouse!
