Humans of Tuggeranong is a photography project curated by five Tuggeranong youth as part of the YWCA Canberra Clubhouse program and is in celebration of National Youth Week 2019.
Based on the original Humans of New York project, Humans of Tuggeranong commissioned a young aspiring photographer to co-facilitate a two-day photography workshop. This two-day workshop engaged four young people currently studying a double major in photography to learn about portrait photography and travel into the Tuggeranong community to take portraits of and interview members of the community. These young people then chose the photos to be featured in an exhibition, edited the photos, and chose a quote from the interview to accompany the portrait.
Humans of Tuggeranong supported the young photographers to grow their personal and professional development through increasing their confidence and skills in photography, communication, and event organisation. The exhibition of Humans of Tuggeranong captures insight into the unique people of the Tuggeranong community, people whose stories may otherwise be left untold. Through just a photograph and a few short sentences, Humans of Tuggeranong allows the Tuggeranong community to share and connect, whilst also celebrating the talent and achievements of the young photographers who made it possible.
Humans of Tuggeranong will be exhibited at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre, inclusive of National Youth Week, 15 April 2019– Saturday 27 April 2019.
